Gas prices email

So I get this email today about gas prices please read:

"THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO $1.30 PER GALLON.
This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please.
Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy gas on a certain day' campaign that was going around last April or May! It's worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!!!
I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down?
We need to take some intelligent, united action. The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to 'hurt' ourselves by refusing to buy gas . It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can Really work. Please read on and join with us!
By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $2.00 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.98 for regular unleaded in my town.
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not sellers.
With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
How?
Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.
Here's the idea: For the! rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the three biggest companies ( two of which now are one), EXXON, MOBIL and CITGO If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices.
If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers.
It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!
I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers .
If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it...... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all! (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people)
Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am so trust me on this one. How long would all that take?
If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!
I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.
I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $2.00 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK. "

The reason I believe this will not work:
How many stations do Exxon/Mobile/Citgo run under a hidden name?
How many stations do they supply?
How much of the industry is funded by our own government?
Shell with GTL the next one of the leaders?
One should research each station to determine where they are getting there supplies from.
We can't just assume that Exxon/Mobile/Citgo are to blame for everything.

Dubai

This is just crazy!

Dubai in 1990

The same street in 2003

Last year

The madness. Dubai is said to currently have 15-25% of all the world's cranes.

The Dubai Waterfront. When completed it will become the largest waterfront development in the world.

All of this was built in the last 5 years, including that island that looks like a palm tree.

The Palm Islands in Dubai. New Dutch dredging technology was used to create these
massive man made islands. They are the largest artificial islands in the world and can be seen from space. Three of these Palms will be made with the last one being the largest of them all.

Upon completion, the resort will have 2,000 villas, 40 luxury hotels, shopping centers, movie theaters, and many other facilities. It is expected to support a population of approximately 500,000 people. It is advertised as being visible from the moon.

(see top photo)

The World Islands. 300 artificially created islands in the shape of the world.
Each island will have an estimated cost of $25-30 million. /\

The Burj al-Arab hotel in Dubai. The worlds tallest hotel.
Considered the only '7 star' hotel and the most luxurious hotel in the world.
It stands on an artificial island in the sea.
Hydropolis, the world's first underwater hotel.
Entirely built in Germany and then assembled in Dubai,
it is scheduled to be completed by 2009 after many delays.
The Burj Dubai. Construction began in 2005 and is expected to be complete by 2008.
At an estimated height of over 800 meters, it will easily be world's tallest building when finished. It will be almost 40% taller than the the current tallest building, the Yaipei 101.

This is what downtown Dubai will look like around 2008-2009.
More than 140 stories of the Burj Dubai have already been completed.
It is already the worlds tallest man made structure and it is still not scheduled to be completed for at least another year.

The Al Burj. This will be the centerpiece of the Dubai Waterfront.
Once completed it will take over the title of the tallest structure in the world
from the Burj Dubai.
Recently it was announced that the final height of this tower will be 1200 meters. That would make it more than 30% taller than the Burj Dubai and three times as tall as the Empire State Building.

The Burj al Alam, or The World Tower. Upon completion it will rank as the world's highest hotel. It is expected to be finished by 2009. At 480 meters it will only be 28 meters shorter than the Taipei.

The Trump International Hotel & Tower, which will be the centerpiece of one of the palm islands, The Palm Jumeirah.

Dubailand. Currently, the largest amusement park collection in the world is Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, which is also the largest single-site employer in the United states with 58,000 employees. Dubailand will be twice the size.
Dubailand will be built on 3 billion square feet (107 miles^2) at an estimated $20 billion price tag. The site will include a purported 45 mega projects and 200 hundred other smaller projects.

Dubai Sports City. A huge collection of sports arenas located in Dubailand. Currently, the Walt Disney World Resort is the #1 tourist destination in the world. Once fully completed, Dubailand will easily take over that title since it is expected to attract 200,000 visitors.

The Dubai Marina is an entirely man made development that will contain over 200 high-rise buildings when finished. It will be home to some of the tallest residential structures in the world. The completed first phase of the project is shown. Most of the other high rise buildings will be finished by 2009-2010. The Dubai Mall will be the largest shopping mall in the world with over 9 million square feet of shopping and around 1000 stores. It will be completed in 2008.

Ski Dubai, which is already open, is the largest indoor skiing facility in the world. This is a rendered image of another future indoor skiing facility that is being planned.

Some of the tallest buildings in the world, such as Ocean Heights and The Princess Tower, which will be the largest residential building in the world at over a 100 stories, will line the Dubai Marina.
The UAE Spaceport would be the first spaceport in the world if construction ever gets under way. The Dubai Metro system, once completed, will become the largest fully automated rail system in the world.
The Dubai World Central International Airport will become the largest airport in size when it is completed. It will also eventually become the busiest airport in the world, based on passenger volume. There are more construction workers in Dubai than there are actual citizens.

Do something good for the environment

How did you spend your St. Patty's holiday weekend? I bet you went out and got drunk, well good for you.

I spent my Sunday, over the holiday weekend, planting a tree. Our house has an old fashion clothesline which needed to be removed. It was the old steel kind and probably hasn't been used since the dawn of creation. Seems the wasps liked this dinosaur piece of lawn furniture too.
What should have been a 15-30 minute removal process turned into about 3 hours instead. The wasps had obviously created a net inside of the metal tubing and didn't like me messing with their home. I had to redirect attention quite often while working around them. I knew it wouldn't take much to remove. However I can tell you, that cement footer was heavier then I expected.

What once was a clothesline, was now a gaping whole in the ground. After some thought of how to fill this hole, the thought of planting a tree crossed my mind. I tend to eat a lot more fruit then I used to. Who would have thought finding a fruit tree at a nursery would be such a pain. After spending 30 minutes looking and driving, $54 dollars later I had myself a tree.

A days work of grueling digging and back breaking heavy weights. I have a nice Florida sun burn and a beautiful tree. Hopefully with my care and maintenance, this time next year I will be able to enjoy the fruit harvest.

Pet Idol Contest 2008

Well if you didn't already know, there is a contest for the local Pet Idol. Basically its a competition of regular homeowners and their pets. Pets can be anything you imagine. Domestic cats and dogs, to farm type animals (yes there was a horse) and even exotic animals (not a contestant but there was a skunk).

The second round for the Pet Idol Contest took place last night at the Coconut Point Mall in Estero Florida. The stage was setup back behind Hemingway's Grill and Paganelli Cucina near the man made lake. It was a great night with lots of participants and even pedestrians who came to watch the show.

I actually had a chance to sit down and chat with the couple with the skunk. This skunk, named Oreo, is a domesticated skunk. People actually breed them for household owners. They are de-glanded (the smelly gland is removed when young) and raised in the house so that they are familiar to their surrounds. Because they are house breed, these animals do not have the primal instincts as they wild counterparts. Very cute and cuddly in a relaxed environment. In fact it was told to me that there are only around 16-18 state which allow skunks to be home pets. With a little research and prospect owner can obtain a magnificent exotic pet within in reasonable time and cost.

I don't know so much about having a skunk myself, however our families pet was in the contest. Mr. Whipple is my mothers dog. He is a Dachshund with very unique coloring and history. At about a year old, he had lost all his hair and turned 50% white. We call him the reverse raccoon dog because he coloring is reversed from that of a raccoon.
